“Mono Environments” by Eric Nulman is an exhibit of recent design research on the use of ephemeral ornament (colored-light shadows) to generate a singular spatial aesthetic. Eighteen light patterned environments were created using physical models with custom cut theatrical gels to filter sunlight onto interior walls and floors; these temporary environments were documented with photographs and drawings (work completed at the MacDowell Colony). The exhibit includes three partial series: photographs positioned beyond the model’s aperture (8/18), photographs inside the models of the mono-environments (6/18), and representational drawings of the mono environments (5/18).
