"the echoing of tenses" at 92NY, with the American Modern Opera Company

Past Fellows Event

The New York premiere of Anthony Cheung's "the echoing of tenses” explores themes of shared memory, the Asian-American immigrant experience, the universal immigrant experience, and familial relationships, in an evocative and wholly original interdisciplinary work. At its center are poems by seven of today’s most compelling Asian-American poets, who despite very different aesthetic approaches, influences, and backgrounds, are linked together by many common threads: diaspora, personal and collective memory, and a spirit of experimentation through language and sound. Four of them – Victoria Chang, Arthur Sze, Jenny Xie, and Monica Youn – will read as part of the performance. The musical score is composed by Anthony Cheung with performances by members of the American Modern Opera Company. The event will also be available via ticketed streaming for up to 72 hours after the broadcast.
