Gifts to underwrite Fellowships and to maintain studios and residency buildings are essential to help MacDowell continue its mission. With major gifts designated for Fellowships, we are able to continue our tradition of accepting artists solely on the basis of talent. Annual Fellowships are designated by the donor to help support one or more residencies in the year of the gift. Endowed and Honorary Fellowships, based on income from gifts held in MacDowell's endowment fund, provide support in perpetuity. MacDowell Fellows are selected for annual, endowed, and honorary Fellowships at the end of each calendar year, after their residencies are completed, by an internal committee. Artists and donors are notified early in the following year. Fellows do not apply for these Fellowships and the Fellowships do not impact MacDowell’s admissions process.
Facility grants, endowed or annual gifts, provide for the upkeep of studios and residential buildings. Financial awards provide stipends for travel and other reasons when hardships are identified.
